KISS ME KATE. Division VIIa (Longiflorum-asiatic hybrid) introduced by Van der Salm. The flower faces up; petals are an iridescent coral or salmon-rose with deep yellow to gold star-like centre; stigma yellow; light brown pollen. The stem is 21-26 inches, green. A mid season bloomer.
The Royal Horticulture International Lily Register and Checklist 21 Supplement indicates this name is unacceptable as "Kiss Me Kate" was first used in 1993 by J. Wadekamper/Borbeleta Gardens to register a 1a/b Asiatic hybrid.
[The 21st Suuplement includes accounts, for information only, on a number of cultivars whose epithets are not registered. In most cases these conceern lily names which are, for a variety of reasons, unacceptable but where it is now unlikely that the epithet will be changed.]
Saskatoon - Gil Joanis: I planted this lily in heavy clay to which peat moss, garden humus, and well rotted manure were mixed My lily beds are fertilized with 16-20-0 both in May and early July; and are top dressed with well rotted manure in late fall. The lily beds are in areas of full sun.
