MOONYEEN

MOONYEEN: A martagon lily (ll) hybridized, grown, named and registered by Fred Tarlton and introduced by Honeywood Lilies. The flower had medium purplish-pink tips and throat; deep purplish-pink petals with many purple-red spots on the inner ½ of each petal; nectarines are moderate orange-yellow; pollen is deep orange; the petals measure 37 x15mm, are moderately reflexed but not ruffled. The leaves are whorled, measure 70 x20mm, and are dark green. Stem is 1.0 – 1.2m (39 to 44 inches) tall, mid to dark green in colour and may have 12 or more flowers. Moonyeen blooms mid to late June.

Saskatoon - Margaret Driver: Moonyeen was planted four years ago in a spot next to a six foot cedar fence; the soil is a heavy clay till; the bulbs were planted at a depth of 5 inches; mulched with peat moss and small amount of garden fertilizer added before covering; in the summer this site receives light from the east (diffused) and full sunlight from late afternoon on; and this site receives a limited input of moisture during lawn watering. These martagons receive some additional fertilizer (26-13-0) when the flower beds and lawn are treated in early and mid summer. The last three years (2003-2005) Moonyeen grew to 6 feet wih a beautiful array of blooms (see the photograph above).
