ORANGE PIXIE

ORANGE PIXIE 1a. Hybridized (1973) by Eddie McRae; named (1980) and introduced (1982) by Oregon Bulb Farms. Large orange slightly recurved flowers have tiny purple-brown papillae on the basal 1/3 of the petal; light nectaries; greyed-orange pollen. Leaves are dark green. Stems are 12 to 18 inches dark green with 3 to 7 flowers. Blooms early -June.

Saskatoon -Margaret Driver : I have grown this Pixie for more than 10 years in many areas of three gardens - in two of these gardens the soil had a strong clay base which was amended with peat moss, well rotted manure, and more recently the second one is also amended with coffee grounds. The third garden was on river alluvium - a sandy/silty base. All beds have received some garden fertilizer (16-23-0). Orange Pixie multiplies well as do most Pixies to form a nice clump (group) within a few years.
